Vinno Rosso Barbabecchi

Barbabecchi is not only a wine, but also the name of the famous Etna Contrada (vineyard area) where the SRC family grapes grow. This wine is one of the best expressions of Nerello Mascalese. It is made from extremely old (perhaps even 100 years old) vines growing on lava soil at an altitude of 650-1000 meters. The wine is macerated for a longer period and aged in large neutral barrels to gain depth and calm. It is an SRC that shows the potential of Etna wine.
Taste? The wine is dry, concentrated and multi-layered. It is dominated by rich cherry, red currant notes and a pronounced aroma of spices (cinnamon, tobacco). Due to the long aging, it has a firm but elegant tannic structure and a long, deep, volcanic minerality.
How to serve? Serve slightly chilled (around 16-18 °C). This wine needs “air”, so it is worth decanting. It is a great gastronomic wine for serious dishes. Pair with mushroom risotto, grilled lamb or mature hard cheeses.
